Mary Guillaume

May 10, 1936–September 4, 2020

I am drawn to paint light in its many aspects, all of which attract me and my paint brush. While I work in different media my goal is to explore and enjoy the creative process, and to capture a mood, an emotional response or a striking image that speaks to the viewer’s experience as well as recalling my own.

A founding member of UpTown Gallery, Mary Guillaume began drawing and painting as a child. From Algoma, she enjoyed painting the rugged landscapes and vivid colours of the near-north.

Mary began painting full-time after retirement. A Montreal resident for many years, she studied art in McGill University’s mature student program and with many renowned artists in Quebec and Ontario. She was a longtime member of Central Ontario Art Association and began attending their annual Weekend Workshop at Geneva Park on Lake Couchiching in 1999.

Mary’s paintings were exhibited in many juried shows, and her paintings and ink sketches hang in private collections in North America and Europe.
