Community Making Connections with Art

Art Projects

Community Mosaic Mural

This project it is a metaphor for a community of interconnected unique individuals.

Participants were given a simple template, marker and paper to make a tile for the mural.

Each tile is unique and its design interconnects with the tiles around it.The mural was conceived by artist Nicole Waddick and was inspired by the ancient Japanese geometric pattern design called karakusa.

People made tiles for the Mural at Waterloo Public Square on May 25th, at the Kitchener Market on June 5th, and in the Gallery for 2 weeks. The final tiles were created by a Grade 3 class at Westvale Public School.

It was displayed in UpTown Gallery from July 16th to September 13th, 2010.
