November 15 to January 21, 2012

UpTown Gallery presents, Translucence, an exciting exhibition of glowing drawings, encaustic paintings, stained glass, fused glass, and mixed-media works by local artists.

About the Artists:

Cathy Pascoe works in coloured pencil, and is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Her work has shown internationally and in coffee table books on drawing.

Laurie Spieker enjoys creating fresh and imaginative contemporary glass art. Her original designs reflect her passion for the outdoors and have brought her recognition in our arts community.

Michelle Salter ‘s encaustic paintings are inspired by nature and what she sees around her everyday. She loves the challenge of interpreting iconic Canadian landscape in a fresh way. Encaustic is a medium made from beeswax that gives her work both an implied depth and an actual sculptural quality.

Nancy Yule creates one-of-a-kind mixed-media art based on fibre. She sews on anything from paper to metal and everything in between. Many of the materials used are recycled making her pieces eco-friendly. Colour is an important component of her work.

Ted Spieker fuses glass bowls and objects that are creative and unique. He is interested in unusual techniques, such as cut strip construction, controlled bubble capture and Vitrigraph. He gains inspiration for his glass forms from many natural and beautiful places in Ontario and beyond.
