A Dynamic Collective of Local Artists

Sophie Drouin

I enjoy making mosaics that stretch the possibilities of the medium and use new and unusual materials.

Sophie Drouin is a second-generation mosaic artist. She studied mosaic techniques first with her father, who was trained in Italy. She later travelled to Europe to study in Italy and France.

Sophie is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists and the British Association for Modern Mosaic.

Sophie Drouin won awards at Prix Picassiette 2010, an international mosaic exhibition in France and at Mosaic Arts International 2011 in Texas.

She has taught mosaic workshops at International Mosaic Summits in Miami and San Diego, at the Chicago Mosaic School, the Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland, California, as well as at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia.

Sophie’s work has been featured in the magazines Grout, Mosaic Art Now and The Grand. She is co-author of the book Listening to the Rocks with fellow mosaicist and rock-hound Bill Buckingham.

In addition to Sophie’s career as a mosaic artist and teacher, she is also a violinist in the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.
