Chain Reaction

an exhibition of assemblage, glass, jewellery, and photography, runs from Tuesday, March 27 to Saturday, May 13, 2018

featuring Susan Arness & Ron Hewson, Carolyn Dix, Laurie Spieker, and Christine Gagnon

UpTown Gallery presents Chain Reaction. Like a row of falling dominoes, the thoughts, attitudes, and artistic actions of featured artists Carolyn Dix, Christine Gagnon, Ron Hewson, Susan Arness, and Laurie Spieker culminate in the art of this new show. We hope the exposure and personal interpretation of all that is expressed here will spark brand new chain reactions that sizzle and spread creatively, jumping with positivity, hope, and significance.

Exhibition runs from Tuesday, March 27 to Sunday, May 13, 2018.

Opening reception is Saturday, March 31st, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Carolyn Dix assembles a mixture of acrylic paints & mediums, papers, metal, glass, wood, and textiles in her mixed-media art to explore “time” and its many facets. How we spend our time creates a chain reaction in our sphere of influence, so let’s start a chain reaction of positivity and good into our world.

Christine Gagnon creates one-of-a-kind and limited series precious metal and gemstone jewellery. A chain reaction is at the heart of her design process: elements, textures, forms, and lines are inspired by nature and distilled into miniature wearable works of art, each concept leading instinctively to the next.

Ron Hewson and Susan Arness together are known as Chesley House, a photographic collaboration that features bold composition, strong use of colour, and which prints on metal, wood, and paper.

Laurie Spieker creates original designs in glass that reflect her passion for the natural world and its collections of mysteries. Like a chain reaction, one small glimpse of nature’s grace and simplicity leads to closer studies and the eventual encapsulation of these views in the colourful cosmos of glass.
